Movers & Shakers: January 29, 2016

Botswana: DCI unch, USD 6k

Absolutely nothing to report from Gaborone.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.26%, USD 7.6m

Foreign buying pushed the Nairobi bourse higher. The major action took place in EABL (unch, KES265.00) and KNCB (+70bps, KES38.25). Outside of these 2 names the market was incredibly quiet with only Safcom (unch, KES15.15) seeing any trading activity.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.55%, USD 710k

Another dissapointing day to end the week in Port Louis with MCBG the main driver behind activity as 55k shares traded while the other big names were very quiet. NMH was extremely strong, closing +9.5% higher after a press article stating that an international group is interested in purchasing the company.

Nigeria: ASI +1.34%, USD 10m

Another dull day as the month ended with a whimper. Banks (+4.08%) did rally though and have been trying all week to recoup some of the month’s losses. Activity was once again dominated by GTB (+6.54%, N16.79) and Zenith (+7.23%, N12.61). Consumers were also strong as they rose by 2.05% although the sector was quiet. In the cements we saw some crossing action in Wapco at N80 (unch).

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.38%, USD 860k

A better day in Harare from an activity point of view thanks to some small action in the likes of Delta ($364k), Econet ($185k) and Old Mutual ($180k).
