Movers & Shakers: July 31, 2014

Botswana: DCI +0.07%, USD 2.31m

A much better day in Gaborone as value traded amounted to USD 2.31m thanks to a large cross of 10.22m shares in Turnstar while the rest of the market was rather quiet.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.31%, USD 8.3m

Some strong foreign buying in KNCB was a core focus of today’s session. KNCB released results before the session and there were multiple buyers in the name, all foreign, while 100% of the selling was from locals. The name gained to close at KES 54.50 while Eqbnk tried to follow suit and closed higher at KES 45.25. Safcom saw some mild activity and also closed higher at KES 12.20. EABL was very muted and hardly traded.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.44%, USD 1.22m

Much of the same in Port Louis as value traded amounted to USD 1.22m with the usual suspects SBM (9.07m shares) and MCBG (42k shares) leading the way. There was some action in NMH as 74k shares changed hands.

Nigeria: ASI -0.64%, USD 42.7m

An incredibly active day to end the month in Lagos with foreign investors coming to the party. The most active stock was Nestle which traded a massive $12.7m as the name closed at N1120 (-9bps). Consumers were very active as they closed higher by 19bps. Outside of Nestle there was decent activity in NB (+59bps, N180.10) and GSK (-1.65%, N65.01). Banks fell by 79bps with the Tier 1 names seeing lots of activity. Some of the more notable names were FBNH (-3.47%, N14.48) and Zenith Bank (-2.03%, N25.08). Oando was yet again very active with local trading and closed up 14bps at N27.98. Results season continues and today we saw the likes of FBNH, GSK, Diamond Bank, Ashaka, ETI and Skye Bank report.

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.83%, USD 628k

Another rather lack luster day in Harare with value traded amounting to USD 628k with small action in the likes of ZPI ($132k) and OK Zim ($100k) the only names worth mentioning. The market closed higher with the Industrial Index gaining +0.83%.
