Some mild activity in FNBB (348t) about the only action today in Gaborone.

Egypt: EGX 30 -1.66%, USD 79m

The Egyptian market lost ground for the fourth consecutive day. The EGX30 ended the day 1.66% down on considerably lower volumes of USD 79m, approximately half the three-month average turnover. The market failed to rebound from the 8200 level, as many local retail investors continue to own stocks, with no cash to drive the market momentum higher. The real estate sector took a notable hit, with PHDC (-5.94%) breaking EGP4.00, TMGH (-4.33%), OCDI (-3.30%) and AMER (-5.93%). However few names managed to trade against the market sentiment, EAST (+4.67%) and ODHN (+4.36).

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.26%, USD 10.10m

Activity picked up in Nairobi as value traded amounted to $10.10m which was largely driven by local investors. Safcom ($2.86m) was the day's most active counter as the telco fell -1.56% to close at KES 12.60. Foreign purchases drove demand in EQBNK as a total of 3.93m shares traded in the bank. Locals drove proceedings in KNRE as a toal of 5.52m shares traded while only 1.04m shares changed hands in KNCB.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.35%, USD 1.39m

Activity was centered on the 2 main banks in Mauritius. MCBG closed unchanged at Rs215 while SBM lost 96bps to Rs1.03. The Sem-7 was generally soft with small losses recorded in Alteo, ENL Land and Terra.

Nigeria: ASI +0.39%, USD 47.9m

Another extremely active day in Oanado ($17.44m) thanks to a few large crosses as total value traded in the market amounted to $47.9m. Other large contributors towards today's activity came in the form of Transcorp ($6.99m), NB ($3.80m), GTB ($3.22m) and Zenith ($3.04m). Banks closed the day lower with the Index falling -0.50% with Access (-2.35%), UBA (-1.65%) and GTB (-1.38%) dragging the sector lower. Consumers (+0.99%) closed on the front foot thanks to NB (+2.93%).

Zimbabwe: Industrials +1.21%, USD 702k

A rather slow day in Harare as value traded amounted to USD 702k with some activity in BAT ($208k) and Delta ($167k) while the rest of the market was very quiet. The market closed the day higher with the Industrial Index gaining +1.21%.
