Market activity was dominted by the likes of Choopies, Letshego and FNBB
Another massive day in Nairobi thanks to yet another large cross in Equity Bank. Helios Investment Partners, an Africa-focused private investment firm, appears to have been disposing its position after earlier selling stakes to Norfininvest AS and NSSF Uganda. Today’s cross saw 156m shares cross at KES47.50. In normal trading we saw a couple of crosses in BATK (+5.7%, KES741.00) and Centum (unch, KES65.50). In the large cap names there was some action in Safcom (+90bps, KES16.45) and EABL (-30bps, KES304.00).
Market turnover was mainly geared towards SBM and MCB, the counters accounted for 45.5% and 35.8% respectively. MCB shed 0.1% to close at Rs217 on the back of 159k shares traded. SBM had a great as the counter gained 2.2% after trading 48.9m shares during the session.
An average day from an activity point of view to end the first half of the year as turnover amounted to $21.4m. The session was once again dominated by crosses in a few names with some action in Zenith ($8.88m), Unilever ($4.35m) and NB ($1.21m). Banks closed the day lower with the sector falling -0.51% as Zenith (-2.28%), Access (-1.40%) and GTB (-1.06%) were a drag on the sector. Consumers (-0.28%) also closed lower as Cadbury (-4.03%) and Nestle (-3.62%) came under pressure. The market did however close higher despite the two major indices closing lower thanks to market heavyweight DangCem (+3.45%).
