A better day in Gaborone, but still nothing to write home about as total value traded amounted to $169k.
A large cross (both sides local) in Liberty Insurance dominated the day as more than $7.5m changed hands in the name. Normal trading was dominated by the Big 4 with all these names seeing foreigners skewed to the buy side. KNCB closed unchanged at KES62.50 while EqBnk inched up to KES49.50 (+50bps). There were also gains for Safcom (+30bps, KES17.45) and EABL (+30bps, KES322.00).
Unfortunately there was nothing to report from Port Louis as turnover amounted to a paltry $260k with all of the big names very quiet.
A couple of crosses lit up a generally dull day. The banks gained a solid 69bps with FBNH (+6.63%, N9.50) leading the rally. There was decent action in the likes of GTB (+35bps, N28.85) and Zenith (+99bps, N21.36). The consumers were also solid (+43bps) with all the action taking place in Nestle (unch, N950.00) and NB (+63bps, N158.00). The rest of the market was notably quiet.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Another slow start to the week in Harare as turniver amounted to $480k with some action in ART ZDR ($235k) the only name worth mentioning while the Industrial Index fell -0.88%.
