A large cross of 11m Letshego got the week off to a good start in Gaborone. Unfortunately the rest of the market was very quiet with nothing to else report.
A sub par start to the week in terms of activity in Nairobi as turnover amounted to a dull $4.5m. EABL was the most active counter on the day as the brewer gained +0.3% on foreign demand with 477k shares traded. Safcom closed the day unchanged as 7.5m shares traded in the telco. EQBNK closed the day -0.6% lower ahead of results due out tomorrow while KNCB also fell -0.6% on small volume.
There was some small activity in Ireland Blyth (80k shares) and LUX (72k shares) while the rest of the heavyweights were extremely quiet as 135 shares and 1.4m shares changed hands in MCBG and SBMH respectively.
It was a much better start to the week than what we have become accustomed to of late in terms of total turnover thanks to and off-market cross of 244m ETI. There were also crosses in Access ($3.3m) and NB ($1.5m) which helped boost activity. Banking stocks had a strong day with the sector gaining +2.08% thanks to Zenith (+4.56%), GTB (+3.03%) and Access (+1.90%). Consumers (+0.60%) also closed in positive territory thanks to a good performance in NB (+4.41%).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
The ZSE continues to tick higher. Today’s action was heavily focused on Innscor (23.04c) with Delta (73c) also trading.
